CommuniTech

While the computer revolution created many new ways of connecting people and services, some families have been left further and further behind due to the lack of knowledge and resources. CommuniTech was an IMARA initiative at CSAIL that attempted to bridge this Digital Divide -- the perceived gap between those who have access to the latest information technologies and those who do not.

CommuniTech's mission was two-fold. Through the MIT Used Computer Factory (UCF), it provided refurbished computers to underserved families. Through Families Accessing Computer Technology (FACT), it trained those families to become familiar and comfortable with computer technology.

Over its ten years, Communitech has placed computers and training into the hands of over 200 participants.
